The body of a driver who went missing at the start of the month was found by West Garo Hills police on Thursday.

The victim, identified as Nagrash R Sangma, who drove a Mahindra pick-up was hired by an unidentified individual in Tura to drive him to Dalu to pick up certain household items and drop them to Dakopgre area.

The victim was last spotted at 12th Mile road heading towards the Kherapara-Dalu route.

The body was found days after his disappearance when travellers through the Rongdapara reserve forest complained of a strong decomposing smell in the area.

Police then recovered the body on Thursday from the forest which was not far from the Kherapara-Dalu road.

Police are of the opinion that the man who hired the vehicle is the prime suspect. However, investigation is still underway. The vehicle is yet to be found.

The incident adds to the increasing amount of vehicle theft and murder cases in the Garo Hills, often thought to be initiated by criminal gangs who sell them off to neighbouring states.
