TURA, Apr 2: As the spate of crime against women and children in Matrilineal Meghalaya continues, even the innocence of a 5 year old minor means nothing to criminals.

The state of Meghalaya, with its rapidly increasing cases of sexual violence against women and children saw another addition to the growing numbers after a drunken man raped a 5 year old girl in the village of Nogolpara under Dainadubi outpost in North Garo Hills.

According to police sources, the 5 year old girl had gone to the rented accommodation of the alleged culprit Renick M Sangma (35 years) along with other children to watch television. After a while, the suspect chased the other children but held back the 5 year old minor who he took to his room, after locking it and sexually assaulted her.

Two boys who had stood by even after being chased later peeped through the bamboo house and saw the act being committed on the minor.

The incident happened at about 6:30 pm this Friday though the matter was informed by the girl only yesterday.
