Manipur: Grenade, note found on office table of Director of Consumer Affairs

IMPHAL, June 30, 2018: A Chinese-made hand grenade was found placed on Director of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Ranjan Yumnam's table at around 12.25 pm on Friday.

Speaking to the media, the peon of the department, H. Ngouba said that he opened the director's office at around 7.30 am as a daily routine so sweepers can clean up the room.

He said according to the sweeper, an unidentified person came in when the sweeper was going out to clean the trash.

Ngouba added that when he went inside the office of director to take a file at around 12.25 pm, he saw a grenade placed on the table of director.

The staff immediately informed the police after which an Imphal West police team led by additional superintendent of police, law and order, Hemanta arrived at the spot.

A bomb squad team arrived at around 1pm. The grenade was found placed inside a black polythene bag on a sheet of paper where the words, "Last warning KCP" was found written.

According to the officials, the peon was not aware that the director was out of station which is why he opened the office.
