IMPHAL, Mar 23, 2017: Children playing along the riverbank of the Imphal river at around 11 am yesterday found a bulk number of Aadhaar cards and job card registry books being dumped at the river. The documents belong to the locals of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai and its surrounding localities. The dump location is just 200 metres away from the office of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai Gram Panchayat.

Upon this discovery, the children then informed about the floating documents to their local elders. The documents were then identified to be from that particular area was only when the local elders started scavenging them from the river. An inquiry has been done by  Pradhan  of the Gram Panchayat upon the matter.

One of the residents said that the Aadhaar cards were securely kept in a steel almirah at the office of the Gram Panchayat. However, He also said that it is suspected that unknown persons had looted the documents specifically the Aadhar cards and later dumped in the river.

The local residents has a high suspicion that the crime was perpetrated only by people who knew about the whereabouts of the Aadhar cards as the ward boys themselves had no idea of their location in the office. It is still a mystery as of how the cards landed in the rivers.

The residents of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai and neighbouring areas lamented on the discovery of the dumped Aadhaar cards and said it is unfortunate because the news came at a time when they were waiting to receive them through post.
