Counting starts – Tripura Civic Elections

Tight security has been ensured as the counting for the civic body elections began at 22 centres across the state of Tripura. EVMs were used to conduct the elections that took place.

A total of 886 candidates, including 429 women, are in fray for 290 wards, which is a record in the state's electoral history. Over five lakh- electors will decide their fate.

Meantime, as many as 20,027 voters would decide the fate of 48 candidates in the by-elections. The ruling Left Front has already won 10 seats uncontested after the opposition parties failed to put up candidates. Of the total polling stations, 378 polling booths have been identified as 'A', while 279 polling booths have been rated as 'B'.

The big challenge is between the ruling Left Front and the opposition Congree and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Till now results of two AMC seats have been declared, which the CPM has won.
