There are countless beautiful untold destinations to visit around the world. But with so many places to visit, how do you make up your mind? If you are a nature lover, then you have landed in the right place. Tucked away in the hills of Northeast India, in the state of Meghalaya lies a treasure trove of mesmerising beauty and mystery.

The reason some of us travel is to gain experience, to make memories, to be surprised, to witness the countless natural and manmade beauty around the world. While we are yet to explore more, let us dive into one of the most popular tourist spots in Meghalaya.

What can you expect to find in a cave? Stalagmites and stalactites besides different species of bats? Hold on! There is more to Meghalaya's caves than what meets the eye.

Mawsmai Cave

I know it may sound boring or maybe you’re not a big fan of adventure tourism, but trust me, Mawsmai cave is one of a kind.

Meghalaya is home to numerous underground caves, one of them being the Mawsmai Cave. Located just 57 kms away from the capital city of Shillong, Mawsmai Cave is located in a remote village of Mawsmai in Sohra, East Khasi Hills district.

Mawsmai Cave is unique in itself. Adorned with stalagmites and stalactites, the Cave will remind you of scenes from fantasy movies like The Lord of the Rings, Journey to the Centre of the Earth and many more. It is a perfect escape.

Mawsmai Cave

The entrance of Mawsmai Cave is wide, but as you proceed, it becomes narrower. Some sections will require bending, but it will cause you no pain.

Not all caves are long. The total distance of Mawsmai cave is 150 meters only and, you can complete it within 10-15 minutes (including selfie time).

Mawsmai Cave is open for tourists, and it is easy to navigate; you will not require a guide to explore it.

Travelling and visiting tourist spots may incur expenditure, but Mawsmai cave will cost you only Rs 30 as entry fee and Rs 50 as parking fee.

The area is abuzz with economic activities. You can find different stalls from food to handicrafts corners. Tourists can choose from a variety of handmade art crafts and many other attractions to preserve memories.

Mawsmai Cave

In a nutshell, the Cave offers you a chance to break the monotony of life and escape to the fantasy world.

If you are looking for a short break or simply wanting to get away from the city life or if you ever plan to visit Sohra, then make sure you include Mawsmai Cave in your bucket list.

Trust me, you won't be disappointed as the journey from Shillong to Sohra is in itself a treat to the eyes. The picturesque scenery, endless rolling greens will amaze you. And if you are fortunate enough, you would also witness a live view of the beautiful cloud formations.

A weekend trip to Mawsmai Cave is worth every penny, and every second of your time.
