Nagaland’s six top models



Ketholeno Kense is another Angami beauty who became a household name when she went on to win the  'Hunt for the Kingfisher Supermodels', and featured in the Kingfisher Calendar. This, by far, was the best ever recognition that any model from the Northeast has ever gotten. "She will become a top model one day," predicted one of the top fashion photographers Atul Kasbekar. We will not disagree with him on this count.


Esther Jamir is perhaps the one who started it all by becoming the first prominent face of the fashion industry from the Northeast. Right from the late nineties to even now, Esther Jamir has not only walked the ramp for the finest designers in India but also been an inspiration to many upcoming models from not just Nagaland, but the whole of Northeast. Today, Esther Jamir is a household name when it comes to the fashion industry in the northeast.


Akuonuo Khezhie's first major break came when she was selected as one of the finalists in the Miss India 2007 contest where she won the Sony Miss India and Pantaloons Face of the Year. She moved to New York and signed a contract with Star Models for 6 months and then signed up with Ikon Model Management. She has walked the prestigious New York Fashion Week 2010 and the Couture Fashion Week 2011. The same year, she started the biggest performing arts institute in northeast India, 'Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts' in Dimapur, Nagaland. Currently, she balances her time pursuing her modeling career with Ikon Management, New York and being the Managing Director of NIAPA.


Kethose Nagi, another Angami lady who has not only won accolades in the northeast or in the country but even abroad. After having completed Master's in Fashion management and Entrepreneurship at Northumbria University UK , she went on to become  Miss Newcastle British Empire 2014 recently. Humble and down to earth it is also the attitude that makes Kethonse Nagi an absolute winner.


Ethiel Konyak broke into the fashion world after initially grabbing eyeballs at local beauty pageants and has gone on to become one of the best known faces from Nagaland. Over the years she has become socially active and the grapevine says that she maybe joining serious politics in the near future. For starters she is the Nagaland Mahila Congress General Secretary and according to many this is just a start for this beauty from Nagaland.


Carol Humtsoe after signing a contract with Elite Model Management which has produced super models like Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Ujjwala Raut, Gisele Bunchen. In a few years she has succeeded in bagging few of the world's best known brands such as Benetton, Gucci and has also done few shows for NDTV Good Times. Recently she made an entry to Bollywood with a cameo under the famed Balaji Telefilms, Kya Superkool Hai Hum. "It was my first movie in Bollywood and I had a lot of fun," she adds confidently.
