Nagaland: Sekrenyi mini Hornbill begins at Kohima local ground

The Angami Sekrenyi Mini Hornbill 2020 under the theme" "Restoring Values" began today at Kohima Local Ground with pomp and gaiety.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio attended the function as the Chief Host in the presence of President of Sumi Hoho, Hekhushe Shikhu along with Tenyimi Tribes of Nagaland-Chakhesang, Pochury, Rengma and Zeliang.

Addressing the Sekrenyi celebration, Hekhushe Shikhu said Angami people are one of the most blessed people among the Nagas as the land that they live in is chosen to be the capital and an epicenter for growth and progress for the entire Naga people.

Appreciating URA Academy as a role model institute for the rest of the Nagas to emulate, Sumi Hoho President said it shows how much the community has progress and advance as well achieved towards restoring and preserving the cultural values.

Stating that Sumi tribe has an emotional bond with its Angami Brothers, he urged upon the Sumi community living in Kohima to be a chain of friendship and a pillar of brotherhood between the two communities.

Shikhu called upon the younger generation to value our Naga culture by preserving our tradition, language and identity. He also expressed hope that the Sekrenyi festival will bring peace, unity and prosperity to all the Angamis in particular and also to the Nagas in general. On the occasion, the honoured guest inaugurated the stalls.

Sekrenyi feast, Cultural Presentations and indigenous games competition marked the first day of the celebration. The next two day event will witness various cultural extravaganzas which start at 5 PM.
