Dalai Lama used as political weapon by India in Manipur: Maoist

IMPHAL | March 13, 2018

Regarding Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama’s visit to the State to attend the 105th Indian Science Congress, the proscribed Maoist Communist Party, Manipur has alleged that the move is a political manoeuvre made by India.

A release signed by coordinator, standing committee, Kyonghan Mangang said it is truly unfortunate that the so called intellectuals at Manipur University are ignorant about the restrictions put against the attending of functionaries from both states and the Centre at the 60th anniversary celebration of Dalai Lama’s stay in India as a refugee, titled “Thank You India” to be held on March 31 and April 1 at Delhi. On his statement to cabinet secretary, P.K Sinha, foreign secretary of India, Vijay Gokhale said “The proposed period will be a very sensitive time in the context of India’s relations with China. Participation by senior leaders or government functionaries, either from the central government or state government is not desirable, and should be discouraged,” the release informed.

Manipur has been used a wrestling ground at International politics, it said. The people should analyse why the programmes are restricted at Delhi while it is not in Manipur, it said adding the public should not welcome the spiritual leader. It is time for the people see through this kind of governmental double standard, it added. The party considers his visit as a political manoeuvre; it stated adding the visit will prove that Dalai Lama is a political puppet of India.
