NEW DELHI

Former diplomat and Central Information Commissioner, Yashvardhan Kumar Sinha is set to become the next Chief Information Commissioner (CIC).

According to The Hindu, the decision was taken by a high-powered selection panel headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 24.

Sinha's appointment comes two months after the position fell vacant.

However, the opposition did not like how the names for the post were shortlisted, alleging failure to follow the Supreme Court’s transparency guidelines.

CIC is the apex body under the Right to Information Act.
