Meghalaya: MLA Pius Marwein is UDP & HSPDP’s candidate for Langrin by-poll

The Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA), an alliance comprising of the United Democratic Party (UDP) and Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) has decided to field UDP sitting MLA from Ranikor, Pius Marwein to contest the bye-election of the Langrin seat of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) schedule to be held on February 28.

The meeting was held on Monday at the chamber of Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh who is also the president of the UDP.

The meeting was attended by Water Resources Minister and UDP senior MLA, H Brolding Nongsiej, Pius Marwein along with the HSPDP president, KP Pangngiang and PHE Minister, Samlin Malngiang who is also the senior leader of the HSPDP.

Earlier, the UDP Central Executive Committee had decided to convene a meeting with the Hills State People's Democratic Party (HSPDP) before announcing it's party candidate for the forthcoming bye-election of the Langrin seat.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, UDP general Secretary, Jemino Mawthoh said that they are likely to call for a meeting with the HSPDP since it is part of the Regional Democratic Alliance to discuss on the bye-election.

It may be recalled that the party unit of the UDP had already proposed the name of Marwein to contest the bye-election. The bye-election of the Tura seat was effected following the demise of the sitting MDC, Nasar Marwein on October last year.
