By Our Reporter, TNT News | Shillong, Feb 02, 2018:

Just hours after the BJP announced the first list of 45 candidates, the party lost one of its key members, Violet Lyngdoh, who is also the president of the Mahila Morcha of the BJP Meghalaya unit (East Jaintia Hills unit).

Lyngdoh, who is also the sister of BJP Meghalaya unit president Shibun Lyngdoh, submitted her resignation to the President of Mahila Morcha of the BJP state unit on Monday soon after the party released the list of candidates.

Sources informed that Lyngdoh, left the party and joined the NPP because she was denied party ticket from Khliehriat constituency.

Speaking to the media, Lyngdoh confirmed that she left the party for NPP after being denied ticket.

Defending her brother's stance to stick by the list, Lyngdoh said "He (Shibun) is not alone in deciding the list. It comes from the top. Maybe he tried to help me but I don't know."

It may be mentioned that the BJP has fielded former independent legislator Justine Dkhar from Khliehriat constituency.

Reacting to this sudden turn of events, BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh said "It's their individual choice and from our side, we try our best to help her but the ultimate decision lies with the Central authority and we are very much satisfied with the decision."
