KHADC political drama: NPP expels PN Syiem from Party

Shillong, Nov 24:

The disciplinary committee constituted by the National People's Party (NPP) Meghalaya State Unit which met today decided to expel senior leader and Chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) chairman, Pynshngain N Syiem from the party.

"The disciplinary committee of the party has decided to expel you (PN Syiem) from the party for anti-party activities," NPP Meghalaya State Unit president, Dr. W.R. Kharlukhi stated in a letter addressed to Pynshngain to inform him about the decision of the party.

It may be mentioned that Pynshngain had voted in favour of the no-confidence motion moved by the opposition Congress to topple the Executive Committee of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) led by the United Democratic Party (UDP) in the Council on November 20 last.

The KHADC chairman needed to vote as there was a tie with both the ruling and opposition getting 14 votes each when the no-confidence motion was put to vote.

When asked on the two party MDCs in the KHADC- Mitchell Wankhar and Alvin Sawkmie, who is also the Deputy Chairman- who were also involved in the "anti-party" activities, Dr Kharlukhi said that the party is still examining the case of these two MDCs.

"We will be taking a call on the fate of the two MDCs in the coming days," the NPP Meghalaya State Unit president said.

Replying to a query, Dr Kharlukhi indicated that the two MDCs are also likely to be expelled from the party.

It may be recalled that the two NPP MDCs had also voted in favour of the no-confidence motion.
