Assam Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday suspended it's executive committee member Anil Raja for leveling corruption allegation against former minister and senior party leader Rakibul Hussain.
A meeting of the PCC held at the party's state headquarters under the chairmanship of president Ripun Bora decided to put Raja under suspension with immediate effect.
Raja had earlier alleged that Hussain, former forest and power minister had amassed property worth crore much above his known source of income. Hussain had denied the allegation and filed a defamation case against Raja. But Raja demanded an inquiry against him.
A statement issued by PCC said Raja was issued show cause notice on February 17 but despite that, he continued to level allegations against Hussain.
Raja had sought more time to reply to the show cause notice but the PCC refused to entertain his request and suspended him from the party with immediate effect.
