Centre asks states, UTs to strictly implement lockdown measures amidst Coronavirus outbreak

NATIONAL | April 2, 2020:

The Centre has asked States and Union Territories to strictly implement lockdown measures in the letter and spirit.

In a letter to State Chief Secretaries and UT administrators, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla said, it has been noticed that some States and UTs are allowing exceptions beyond what has been permitted under the lockdown.

He said this amounts to a violation of the lockdown measures announced by the Center under the Disaster Management Act and may defeat the overall objective of containing the spread of COVID-19.

It is to be mentioned that the total number of positive coronavirus people in India so far has reached up to 1834 on Thursday.

The Health and Family Welfare Ministry has confirmed that 144 patients have been cured and 41 deaths have been reported so far in the country.

More than 9 lakh cases of COVID-19 cases have been officially detected worldwide since the pandemic emerged in China late last year. At least 45,719 deaths have been recorded in 187 countries and territories globally.

Over two lakh cases and 4,476 deaths have been reported in the United States alone.
