NEW DELHI:

Amidst the crisis in the Punjab Congress, and Captain Amarinder Singh resigning from the post of chief minister and party, the Indian national football team’s goalie has been inadvertently dragged into the political whirlwind.  How? The spelling of his name is slightly different from the veteran politician.

Majority of the media houses are tagging the goalkeeper in their social media posts mistaking him to be Captain Amarinder Singh and it has prompted the ATK Mohan Bagan FC goalkeeper to plead the media not to do so.

"Dear News Media, Journalists, I am Amrinder Singh, Goalkeeper of Indian Football Team,  and not the Former Chief Minister of the State Punjab  Please stop tagging me (sic)," tweeted the footballer.

The entire episode came as a much-needed breather for Captain Singh, who has been busy attending meetings with political bigwigs in the last couple of days.

Taking notice of the footballer’s tweet, Captain commented on his post saying, “I empathise with you, my young friend. Good luck for your games ahead (sic).”

In a development on the political front, Captain Singh, on Thursday, clarified that he is not joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), but is definitely quitting Congress.
