Taiwan to send 150 oxygen concentrators to India this weekend

Foreign Minister Joseph Wu on Thursday said Taiwan will send 150 oxygen concentrators to India this weekend to help fight the worsening COVID-19 situation in the country.

On Wednesday, India’s COVID-19 death toll passed the 2,00,000-mark amid a shortage of hospital beds and medical oxygen.

“We had been working on an aid package for India and have already purchased 150 oxygen concentrators, which should be able to be sent this weekend,” Wu told reporters.

“We are buying more oxygen concentrators and buying raw materials from overseas so our companies at home can produce,” he said.

An oxygen concentrator takes in air, filters it through a sieve, releases the nitrogen back into the air, and produces oxygen-enriched air supply to patients.

As per studies, this oxygen is 90-95 per cent pure.

Wu also stated that Taiwan is looking at other ways of helping India.

Taiwan is also looking at providing other aid as requested by India, Wu added.
