AGARTALA: Counting for TTAADC seats is going to take place tomorrow. The EVMs are being safeguarded by Central Security forces in the strong room. The counting would begin in 28 halls of 16 sub-divisions starting from 8 AM. The people of TTAADC have exercised their franchise for the first time ever through EVM. Hopefully, the results will be out by evening. The highest vote percentage is 91.7 in Bhuratuli Muhuri Pur. The lowest vote percentage is 74 in Jampui.

With the existence of unity in spite of diversity, Tripura went for exercising their franchise in TTAADC polls on May 3 which began from 7 AM. 177 candidates were in the fray. Their fate was decided by 7, 58, 554 voters.

The TTAADC election of Tripura is replete with diversity. Other ADC areas of the country were set up to cater to the needs of various tribes. Exemplifications are Bodoland and Karbi Anglong of Assam, Marak of Mizoram and Chakma of Arunachal Pradesh. All these ADC's were set up for sustenance of the needs of various tribes.

Tripura has made an exception. Despite the presence of 19 different sub-tribes, no discord prevails. No separate ADCs for each of the sub-tribes. The total seats of TTAADC are 30. 28 of these seats await the people's verdict. While, the remaining two are State Government nominees. The geographical area of TTAADC is 7, 132 km which is two-thirds of the entire state. On the contrary, the residents of TTAADC comprise 1/3rd of the state's total population.

Interestingly, among the total 177 candidates, there are only 10 female candidates while 3 are unreserved.

The Left Front in Tripura demanded establishment of TTAADC for a long time. But the interests and development of tribals was always overlooked. Ultimately, the then State Government of Tripura set up the ADC under the ambit of the 7th schedule. Bringing an amendment to the Constitution, Indira Gandhi inducted TTAADC in the 6th schedule.
