Tripura: Mysterious death of a woman and her child, in-laws arrested

AGARTALA: Within 24 hours of lodging FIR against mysterious death of a woman along with her five year old child in Sonamura Sub Division of Tripura's Sepahijala District, police arrested three suspects including a TSR jawan and one woman on Tuesday late night.

They were produced before a local court where two were sent to police remand while the woman was sent to judicial custody for three days.

Sources said that the woman along with her girl was recovered from her house with almost 90 percent burn injuries on Monday. The woman, known as Anita Debnath died at the spot. The child was taken away to Melaghar Hospital for treatment. But she succumbed to her injuries on the way to GBP Hospital.

Her family members lodged FIR against seven members of her in-laws last day. Police took a case and arrested three including husband – Sukanta Debnath (TSR jawan), mother-in-law – Prajabala Debnath and brother-in-law – Jayanta Debnath.

The deceased's family members alleged that Sukanta and his family used to torture her for dowry despite he earns good money. They suspected that they might have killed Anita and her child by setting them on fire.

Asked about the issue, police said that they could not come to any conclusion before interrogation.
