Tripura: First Catholic Diocese hospital inaugurated in state

AGARTALA: A newly-built hospital to be run under the aegis of the Catholic Diocese was inaugurated at West Noabadi, outskirts of Agartala today. The hospital is the first of its kinds in the state.

The hospital named as St. Joseph consists of 50 beds along with the facility of Critical Care Unit (casualty), Out Patient Department (OPD), General Medicine, General Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics and pathology, biochemistry and hematology.

"The hospital has been created to provide medical services to the people at an affordable cost. Hope, with the qualified team of physicians, nurses and health educators, the hospital will come up to the expectation of the common people," Father J. Pulinthanath said.

Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy who built and run St. Joseph hospital is an international congregation of the Catholic Church and runs hospitals and dispensaries in different states across the country.

The origin of congregation of the sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy was in France. Later, they came to India in 1949 with the intention to provide education, health care and social service to each and every people, especially the poor and underprivileged sections of the society.
