Travel advisory for Northeasterners in violence-hit northern parts

GUWAHATI, August 26: An alert for people from North East region has been reportedly sounded, asking them to avoid travelling to parts of north India affected by violence following yesterday's conviction of the Dera chief on rape charges.

The emergency alert has been sounded by the Delhi police cell that specifically deals with safety of NE people, led by IGP Robin Hibu. Reports received here, quoting Hibu, said travel advisory has been issued for NE people to avoid travelling in Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan and especially NCR regions( Panchkula, Ghaziabad, Sirsa, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida, Punjab).

Those stranded outside in the affected areas have been asked to look for safe locations, like police stations, or contact Hibu over phone for safe extraction. For those in their houses, they have been asked to remain indoors till improvement of situation.

At least 30 people have been killed and several others injured in widespread violence in parts of northern India after Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted in rape cases yesterday.
