Gangtok:

The world knows Sikkim as a place rich in Buddhist heritage sites which serve as major attractions for pilgrims from across the globe.

However, the state government is also keen on developing ancient Hindu religious sites across the state. With this in mind, the state government launched Kali Darshan Yatra in Budang Gadi (Fort), in Central Pendam village of East Sikkim on October 17.

Chief Minister P.S Golay launched the project and laid the foundation stone at the religious site to develop a walking trail from Gadi Bhir to the Mandir which passes through the tough, rocky cliff.

He said that the state government has been working collectively for the development of rural areas and also suggested ways and means of exploring tourism potential and including the region in the tourism map of the state.

There was also a demand for upgrading the temple from the local community. Erstwhile Pawan Kumar Chamling had laid the foundation for developing the area into a top religious site but the project was delayed because of elections.
