Meghalaya: Section 144 CrPC imposed in parts of West Khasi Hills

The District Magistrate of West Khasi Hills district has imposed an order under section 144 CrPC prohibiting illegal construction of private kutcha roads including the digging or quarrying of stone along National Highway(NH)-44E of the Shillong-Nongstoin road and NH-127B of the Nongstoin-Rongjeng-Tura highway.

The order stated that such illegal activities result in the loosening of soil, which is dumped onto the pavement. This, in turn, becomes a primary contributor to accidents along the highways.

Persons caught violating the above order will be prosecuted according to the law. Vehicles or machinery used in violation of the order will also be confiscated.

This order shall come into force with immediate effect.
