Meghalaya seeks Centre’s aid to airlift 30 ventilators

The Meghalaya Government has taken up with the Centre for airlifting of the 30 ventilators which got stuck due to the cancellation of flight.

"We have already requested the Centre for airlifting of the 30 ventilators," Health and Family Welfare Commissioner and Secretary, Sampath Kumar informed here today. It may be mentioned that the State so far has only four ventilators.

Meanwhile, Kumar said that there are around 20 cases of suspected cases of COVID-19 in the State. "There were 14 cases till yesterday. There were around six samples of suspected cases which were sent for testing today," he informed.

Health and Family Welfare Commissioner and Secretary also informed that there are nearly 4000 people with travel history who have come forward to register with the Government.

 "We have advised all of them to go for home quarantine. There is no need to worry. Only social distancing needs to be maintained. Lots of people are creating lot of anxiety. They should not be stigmatised since we do not know if they have got the virus or not. It is only because of the travel history we are asking them to take precaution of proper distancing within the family. If there are no issues of symptoms for 14 days it means they are fine," Kumar said.

When asked if the department has issued any look out notice of people with travel history who has gone missing to avoid home quarantine, he said that the Deputy Commissioner is following up this issue of such people with travel history escaping home quarantine.

"The Deputy Commissioner has a surveillance team and they are closely working together with the Dorbar Shnong. There is a fair amount of cooperation from everyone on this specific issue," Kumar added.

It may be mentioned that as per reports, there are many people with travel history who failed to report to avoid home quarantine.
