Services like SMS and internet will currently be unavailable in Garo Hills in an effort to curb spread of fake information after the incident today.

According to sources, the decision to suspend internet services came after a high level meeting and recommendation of suspension. Services are expected to be suspended for the initial period of 48 hours after which a review would be initiated.

The order came today through the additional chief secretary, MS Rao after a report was submitted by the Meghalaya DGP over a serious law and order situation in Garo Hills.

The service suspension began this afternoon at 3 pm and will cover all the 5 districts of Garo Hills.
