IMPHAL:

The Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh, on Monday, said that his government is reviewing the pros and cons of imposing another 10 or 14-day total lockdown given the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

While speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a floral tribute to Rajarshi Bhagyachandra on his 222nd death anniversary at Govindaji temple in Imphal today, Singh further stated that they are reviewing the challenges the people might face during the lockdown.

The centre and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) have been providing free rations and medicines for the past six months, he said.

Meanwhile, the chief secretary of Manipur submitted a letter to the Home Ministry and ICMR for advice and suggestions for another lockdown.

We may note that Manipur reported 322 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday. The highest spike of 426 positive cases was on Saturday.

If given the green light, this will be the second lockdown in Manipur after the nationwide unlock began in June.
