IMPHAL:

The Thadou Students’ Association, General Headquarters (TSA-GHQ) have condemned the burning down of houses belonging to their Mizo brethren of Vairengte, Mizoram on October 17 by some miscreants who are residents of Lailapur in Assam.

It further stated that a check-post to ensure COVID-19 protocol was put up on the Mizoram side on October 16, authorities from the Assam side arbitrarily removed it leading to the clash.

It has urged that the central government to immediately resolve the long-pending boundary dispute acceptable to both the state government of Assam and Mizoram to avoid further escalation of tensions that create unwanted incidents.

The students’ association slammed the highhandedness of the Assam’s Hailakandi district administration for utilising highly disproportionate strength of police over a small group of Mizo students volunteers who were only trying to build a resting place in the land within the boundary of Mizoram.
