IMPHAL:

The Manipur Government has reportedly set up exclusive courts to conduct trials for former and sitting MPs and MLAs of the state.

This latest development complies with the directives issued by the Manipur High Court on October 1, directing the state government to set up exclusive courts for past and present MLAs and MPs of Manipur.

The first court will function at the session court level and will be presided over by an additional district and session judge. The second exclusive court will function at the magistrate level and will be presided over by the Chief Judicial Magistrate.

According to official sources, the state government has also appointed two additional public prosecutors - one for Imphal East and another for Imphal west - as special public prosecutors.
