Former Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur and member of Congress Working Committee, G. Gaikhangam, on Tuesday said that the ruling-BJP government have not been able to effectively tackle the issue of COVID-19 in the state.

G. Gaikhangam is currently a member of the legislative assembly from Nungba constituency in Tamenglong district of Manipur.

He had asked the BJP government at the Centre and at the state level led by N. Biren Singh to be "proactive" in tackling the issue of Covid-19 in the state as the efforts committed so far have been "ineffective".

Taking a jibe at the BJP-ruled government, G. Gaikhangam tweeted, “260 new Covid-19 cases in Manipur. We are still not able to effectively control the pandemic in Manipur. Many Security personnel are also getting infected. My sincere request to BJP Govt’s both at Centre and State to become proactive”.

Last week, the Congress leader had lashed out at the government for “its sheer complacency in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic in the past few months”.
