Manipur boy wakes up at his funeral after being pronounced dead by doctors

An 18-year-old boy from Heirok in Thoubal district of Manipur, who succumbed to the kicks of a horse, came back to life briefly hours after the doctors at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) declared him dead.

Elangbam Mocha suffered grievous injuries in his heart and stomach following the kicks meted out by the horse.

After getting transferred from the Thoubal district hospital to the ICU in RIMS, Elangbam Mocha was declared dead and was given a death certificate. But while preparations were made to lit his funeral pyre, his “dead'' body came back to life for a brief period.

The family then rushed him again to the nearest Community Health Centre (CHC) and was referred again to the Thoubal District hospital.

As Thoubal district hospital didn’t have an ECG facility, he had to be rushed to Imphal’s Shija Hospital wherein he was declared brought dead.
