IMPHAL | SEPT 11, 2020 :

A meeting between Manipur's Education Minister, Radheshyam Singh and Forest Environment Minister Awangbou Newmai, was held in Imphal on Friday along with the All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM), All Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM) and Kuki Students Organisation General Headquarters (KSO-GHQ) to discuss various demands chartered by the student bodies.

The state's students' union had called for 48-hour inter-state bandh from September 14 but have been suspended, temporarily after the three-hour-long meeting concluded with mutual agreement between the government and the student bodies.

"The next round of meeting between the student's unions and the Chief Minister of Manipur would be held on or before September 25," said a press release by ATSUM.

"The government should not procrastinate the genuine demand of the tribal students, else intense form of agitations will resume from September 26," said Seiboi Haokip, General secretary ATSUM.

The various student's unions of Manipur had earlier demanded improvement of health care services, addressing the need for specialist doctors and up-gradation of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University-Regional Campus into a full-fledged university.
