Manipur: 14-yr-old rape victim succumbs to injuries, JAC demands action

A 14-year-old girl minor, who was allegedly raped and assaulted, succumbed to injuries at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Hospital in Imphal, Manipur on Thursday.

The minor girl went missing since September 1 evening and was later found lying unconscious in a paddy field by a pedestrian, who later informed the police.

Following the incident, the victim was immediately taken to a RIMS Hospital, where her condition was critical and she was kept on ventilator support. The hospital authorities said the girl died of excessive bleeding.

The main accused, a 19-year-old man, who was known to the girl has been arrested and booked under Sections 307 and 325 of the IPC and the POCSO Act.

A Joint Action Committee (JAC), formed following the death of the victim, reached the bungalow of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh in the evening, threatening to resort to agitation if the government fails to expedite the investigation and arrest all the perpetrators.
