Manipur University impasse | Student organisations to launch 48-hour bandh starting from today midnight

IMPHAL, September 26, 2018: Various student organisations have announced that they will launch a 48-hours state-wide bandh from midnight of September 26 demanding the immediate release of those arrested by the police during the 'midnight raid' at Manipur University on September 20 and 21.

Condemning the arrests and the militirisation of the situation, the All Manipur Student Union (AMSU), Manipuri Student Federation (MSF), Kangleipak Student Association (KSA), SUK, DESAM and AIMS will impose the bandh.

Meanwhile, various tribal student organisations in Manipur have stated that the "the hill people are not a part of the 48-hour agitation" to be launched from midnight of September 26 in connection with the Manipur University issue.

In a joint statement, All Tribal Students Union, Manipur (ATSUM), Kuki Students Organisation-General Headquarters (KSO-GHQ) and All Naga Students Assciation, Manipur (ANSAM) said, "As a part of non-conformity to the impending 48 hours agitation this stricture is issued for all the hill districts in Manipur that, all offices both Government or non-Government should resume their normal activities; all academic institutions should be opened and the inter-hill district connectivity should be opened without any disruption."
