Assam: UPRF cadre shot dead in encounter with police in Karbi Anglong

A cadre of the United People's Revolutionary Front (UPRF) was shot dead in a gun battle with police personnel at Jawlian in Karbi Anglong district of Assam, in the wee hours of Tuesday.

During a press conference, Additional Superintendent of Police (Headquarter) Indranil Barua said that based on specific inputs regarding the movement of UPRF militants, an operation was conducted in Jawlian area.

“An operation was launched on information provided by sources that a party of UPRF might come. Several (of our) parties fan out and set an up ambush in Jorlen area under Manja police station", he said.

"During the ambush, we came to know that there (was) a movement of UPRF cadres. An encounter took place with one of the parties. The exchange of fire took place (lasted) for a long time in the night. In the morning, when we searched the area, we found a dead body," Indranil Barua said.
