Assam: Silapathar attack culprit arrested from West Bengal!

GUWAHATI, MARCH 22 2017:The president of a little-known Bengali organisation NiBBUSS, Subodh Biswas, wanted by Assam Police for allegedly inciting an attack on an AASU office in northern Assam earlier this month, was arrested by a joint team of Assam and West Bengal police from 24 North Paraganas district of the neighbouring state in the wee hours today.

Following his arrest, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal appreciated the role of Assam Police in nabbing Biswas and also expressed his gratitude to the people of Assam for their support in maintaining peace and harmony in the state on the aftermath of the incident.

Police sources said here that Biswas and his associate were arrested from a village near Bangladesh border around 400 hours today. The duo was produced before a local court there and Assam Police is expected to get transit remand to bring them to Assam.

A team of Assam Police, led by ADGP Mukesh Agarwalla, had made the arrests along with West Bengal police.

Meanwhile, in an official message, Mr Sonowal said after the Silapathar incident, people of Assam continued their support in all efforts taken by the state Government.

Many organisations and intellectuals while demanding immediate arrest of the accused, at the same time also urged the people to restrain themselves and maintain peace, harmony and brotherhood in the state, Mr Sonowal said.
