Assam gets 269 crore as part of the central assistance to disaster affected states

GUWAHATI, March 23: A high-level committee chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday approved a total of nearly Rs 5,021-crore assistance to 10 states affected by natural disasters.

Andhra Pradesh will get Rs 584.21 crore, Assam Rs 269.40 crore, Bihar Rs 822.96 crore, Himachal Pradesh Rs 152.28 crore, Karnataka Rs 171.69 crore, Manipur Rs 19.11 crore, Rajasthan Rs 370.27 crore, Tamil Nadu Rs 2014.45 crore, Telangana Rs 314.22 crore, and Uttar Pradesh Rs 303.05 crore.

Of the total assistance, Rs 4,979.97 crore has been approved from the National Disaster Response Fund and Rs 40.67 crore from the National Rural Drinking Water Programme.

"The committee examined the reports of an Inter-Ministerial Central Team that visited these 10 states affected by floods, landslides, cloudbursts, hailstorms, cyclones, and drought durign kharif season," a government statement said.

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Radha Mohan Singh, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and senior representatives from NITI Aayog, and ministries of home, agriculture and finance also attended the meeting.
