GUWAHATI, June 25, 2018: A man from Nagaon was arrested by the police on Sunday for allegedly creating a fake Twitter account in the name of his brother-in-law by morphing his picture and then posting a tweet threatening to carry out a blast in Guwahati on August 15.

"We noticed a Twitter account @ChannelJakkir posting malicious and threatening contents. One of the posts says that he will carry out a blast in Guwahati on August 15. The profile photo in the Twitter handle was identified by Nagaon police as that of one Md Jakir Hussain. However, it is suspected that it could be a fake account and may have been created to defame and frame Jakir," a source said.

He said further investigations led to one Md Ikramul Haque, the brother-in-law of Jakir, who had morphed his photo and created the fake account to get Jakir arrested.

"Haque of Dhupaguri gaon under Dhing police station has been arrested and a case is registered against him. A desktop computer, a mobile phone and a camera used by him to commit the crime have been seized," the source said.

"It was learnt that Haque used to torture his wife who is Jakir's sister and for that a case was registered against him in Dhing police station earlier. It appears that Haque created the fake Twitter account to settle a score with Jakir," the source said.
