Arunachal Pradesh: 4 dead, 5 critically injured after massive rockslide at Siang

ITANAGAR, June 30, 2018: In a tragic incident that took place on Friday afternoon, four Indo Tibet Border Police Force (ITBP) jawan of 49 Bn died on spot with five critically injured.

The incident took place when a huge rock fell off from the hill top on the running ITBP bus coming from Baskar to Laikabaii in Lowar Siang district.

The four deceased have been identified as SI Vijendra Kumar, ASI Vinod Kumar, HC Dhanji Yadav, Driver Ct. Raju Kumar.

The five injured have been evacuated to Dibrugarh and were identified as Inspector Mahendra Pal, ASI Vinod Kumar Sharma, Ct Alo Raja, Ct Jasdev Kumar, Ct Srinivas.

Central DIG, John Neihlaia had informed that the incident happened at around 2:30pm. One ITBP Bus of 49 Battalion coming from Basar at about 5kms before Likabali check gate a huge rock fell from the hilltop and hit the bus. 4 jawans died on the spot while 5 have been badly injured.

Lower Siang, SP informed that all the four bodies have been retrieved from the spot. The bodies have been kept in the Morgue while inquest have been done.

Singpo said that the ITBP have its 49 battalion headquarter at Basar and the Jawans were on its way to sector headquarter at Likabali and for further destination, they were travelling in a mini bus having 20 jawans onboard, Singpo added.

Union Minister of state Home Minister, Kiren Rijiju expressing sorrow over the incident tweeted;
