The Khasi Jaintia National Union (KJNU) has accused Meghalaya Police of illegally collecting money from motorists passing through a checkpoint set up by Ummulong Police Beat House in West Jaintia Hills.

The KJNU stated that police had set up the checkpoint at a bypass along the National Highway.

The union also took up the issue with the Meghalaya DGP and urged him to look into the matter at the earliest.

"An FIR was earlier lodged before the SP of West Jaintia Hills, but no action has been taken so far. The organisation is now seeking intervention from the DGP’s office," KJNU president Niman Shadap said.
