Agriculture Minister O. Lukhoi was rescued by the police while campaigning, when people of Samurou Makha Leikai of Wangoi constituency, stopped the ex-MLA ahead of the by-polls scheduled on November 7.

Reports say that a large number of people stormed the house of one Hidam Bhogeswar of Samurou Makha Leikai on Tuesday at around 11 am when he hoisted flags and had put up posters relating to the upcoming Wangoi by-polls.

They removed them stating that the local body has decided to ban flag hoisting, putting up posters and also arranging community feast related to the upcoming by-polls.

Reports say that when minister O. Lukhoi came to Bhogeswar’s house at around 7:00 pm on Tuesday, a large number of people started gathering outside the residence of Bhogeswar, and told the minister to leave the area, stating that he is violating the restriction zeroed in by the local body.

A heated argument broke out between the two parties which compelled the police to fire blank shots in the air and shell out tear gas to disperse the crowds gathered.

The police managed to rescue minister O. Lukhoi from the place, and none were said to be injured.

Manipur goes for by-polls in five assembly constituencies on November 7, 2020.
