The Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) have announced a general strike in Manipur starting from 5 am on October 14 over the damage caused to the Ema Kounu Lairembi shrine during the National Sports University row.

Ema Kounu Lairembi is a deity revered by the Meiteis which mainly inhabit the valleys of Manipur.

Speaking through a video message, the Kangleipak Kanba Lup has condemned the silence of the state government over the matter. It also said that KKL had urged the government to work out a solution regarding the said shrine but paid a deaf ear to it.

Their demands include the search and arrest of the culprits involved in vandalising the shrine, re-building and the money incurred to be borne by the miscreants.

The KKL had appealed to the local clubs, Meira Paibi (women torch bearers), elders and youth alike to support the general strike and further urged everyone to safeguard the indigenous Meitei from others.
