Bars in Kerala to take more time to reopen

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, on Thursday, said that people would have to wait for some more time as the state government decided against reopening bars in Kerala after they were closed as part of the nationwide lockdown following the COVID-19 outbreak.

We may note that while the excise department was ready to allow bars to reopen, Vijayan stated that it would not wise because of the spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

The number of positive cases in Kerala has now crossed the 10,000-mark.

With over 500 bars in the state, the state excise department has been facing constant pressured from bar owners to allow them to reopen their businesses.

However, counter sales will continue even though there are no plans to reopen the bars at the moment.
