Air quality in Delhi to deteriorate further

NEW DELHI:

According to an AQI forecast, the air quality in Delhi, which has remained in the poor category, will probably deteriorate further in the next three days.

This would prove especially hazardous for COVID-19 patients in the capital.

The System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), Ministry of Earth Sciences, stated that the increase in pollution is because of gradual increase in stubble burning in adjoining states.

According to SAFAR, the boundary layer wind direction and speed are favourable for the transport of pollutants towards Delhi at present.

Meanwhile, the Central Pollution Control Board informed that out of 35 pollution monitoring stations, the air quality index in 17 stations is in the poor category, 15 are in the moderate category, and four are non-functional.

We may note that the area near Delhi Technical University recorded the highest AQI at 290.
