Meghalaya: Five more held in Moris Marngar murder case

The police on Sunday, arrested five more persons in connection with the murder of one Moris Marngar at Nongdisong village in West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya.

Marngar was buried alive by his nephews on October 7, on the suspicion that he was practicing witchcraft. The matter came to light after the Sordar of Mawliehbah Mannar, Klanding Sohlangpiaw filed an FIR with the police leading to the arrest of three individuals on Saturday.

Police have so far, arrested eight people in connection with the murder.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Walphanus Marngar (32), Exstarning Marngar (52), Beransius Marngar (30), Kyrshanborlang Marngar (25), Michalpol Marngar (27), Denial Marngar (40), Jayless Marngar (27), and Diferwell Marngar (30).

It was informed that the victim’s body will be exhumed by the police in the presence of magistrates, on Monday.

The deceased was accused of casting an evil spell on his niece as a result of which she was suffering since the last three months.

“The accused persons took the deceased forcible on October 6 from his residence at Mawliehbah Manner to Nongdisong and has wrongfully confined him in the house of one Sildaris Marngar till he was buried alive,” police had stated.
