Northeast India is a popular hunt for traffickers where vulnerable and gullible minors as well as adult women are taken to neighbouring countries and made to do menial jobs.
In this regard, the Railway Ptoteaction Force (RPF) on May 14 rescued 5 minor boys along with 2 traffickers from platform no.1 of Rangiya station.
Based on a tip off received by one Ashok Das, Inspector. RPF, Rangiya deployed constables disguised as civilians who then approached the suspects and conversed with them. When the minors could not give satisfactory answers to their queries, it was established that the tip off was true and the forces sprung into action, thereby arresting the traffickers.
Later the traffickers along with the rescued minors were handed over to the GRP (Government Railwy station) for further proceedings.
It may be mentioned that in recent cases, the RPF has been instrumental in rescuing minors. In 2017, RPF rescued 515 minor children and arrested 11 traffickers. This year alone, the RPF has already rescued nearly 170 children from railway premises all over NF Railway.
