Assam: Road rage claims two at Gohpur, angry mob torches vehicle

Two people were killed on spot after a speeding car hit their bike at Gohpur.

Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death among young people aged 15-44 years.

As per latest details two people were killed on spot. Following the incident an angry mob vandalised the vehicle which was allegedly driven by a man who was in an inebriated condition.

As per a 2015 report by the Ministry of Road Transport&Highways Transport Research Wing New Delhi the total number of road accidents increased by 2.5 per cent from 4,89,400 in 2014 to 5,01,423 in 2015.

Drivers’ fault has been revealed as the single most responsible factor for road accidents, killings and injuries on all roads in the country over a long period of time. Drivers’ fault accounted for 77.1 per cent of total road accidents during 2015 as against 78.8 per cent during 2014.

The figure reveals the clumsiness of our departments in handling licenses without proper detailing in the ability of driving under certain conditions which can curtail to a certain extent the percentage of accidents.
