Assam: Police on the counter attack, high alert of militant's attempts to exchange old notes

GUWAHATI: Demonetisation has caused great stir and instability with militant outfits who are reportedly cornered due to the invalidity of their acquired currency.

Assam Police has upped its vigil against any attempt by the groups to exchange old invalid high denomination notes.

Assam Director General of Police Mukesh Sahay said here today that a meeting with 14 bank officials, including representative from the RBI, was held yesterday to alert them on possible move by militant outfits to get hold of new notes in exchange of the old ones.

In another matter, Sahay also said that Cordon and Search Operations are ongoing in parts of eastern Assam in an attempt to flush out ULFA(I) militants, with the aid local people.

The attempt to do so reflects highly on the move made by the Modi government that have made militant outfits literally running for their money. The move to flush them given present scenario of demonetisation is what Assam police would indefinitely attempt to capitalise on in the coming days.
