Assam: NGT issues directive over National Highway diversion at Kaziranga

GUWAHATI: With regards to the diversion of National Highway – 37 at Kaziranga, the Principal bench of the National Green Tribunal has directed the Assam state secretary concerned and the Director of Kaziranga National Park to be present before it on August 24 and submit a compliance report with regard to the directions of the Tribunal passed earlier in the case.

One Rohit Choudhury had filed an original application with a plea to divert the KNP stretch of the National Highway-37 to the north bank of the Brahmaputra from the Jakhalabandha point on the south bank to connect with the Numaligarh point again on the south bank by constructing one more bridge over the Brahmaputra River.

All the representatives concerned with the case have been directed to inform the NGT about the status on the project concerning the proposed flyover along the animal corridor.
