Assam Multi-Crore Scam update: Absconding IAS officer under police net; Chase on for others involved!

July 29, 2017: There seems to no end to the spate of arrests pertaining to the Multi-Crore Scam in Social Welfare Department in Assam. The scam that rocked that state after Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal ordered a probe into it has had big names coming under its web. In a recent development to this case, the sleuths of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption of Assam police on Friday arrested an IAS officer in connection with the multi-crore rupees scam in Social Welfare Department. As per reports, following a tip-off, a team of V&AC launched operation and arrested former director of Social Welfare Department Dilip Borthakur from his residence at Gandhibasti in Guwahati. Borthakur was absconding following the charge sheet since May 26.

It may be mentioned that the V&AC had earlier issued a look out notice against Dilip Borthakur and another former director of the department Kumud Kalita, who were absconding along with many others including Manohar Deka, Kulendra Saikia, Rajat Subhra Bhattacharya, Hemi Bora, Kishopr Barua, Sajad Husain and Dipali Devi.

A top official of V&AC said that, Kumud Kalita is still absconding and the investigating teams are on a look out for him. The investigation organization had earlier accused 11 persons including the two former director of Social Welfare department in the charge sheet filed before the court.

The V&AC had registered a case in connection with the Rs 2250 crore scam in the department following directive by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal last year.

It may be mentioned that earlier the Assam Police Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, submitted charge sheet in the court against Multi-Crore Scam in Social Welfare Department. Court did not give the permission to charge on those officers whose names are one the Charge Sheet.
