Guwahati, January 24, 2018: The Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana also known as Saubhagya programme was launched by Assam government on Tuesday with the sole purpose of providing electricity to 65 lakh houses in the state within this year.
As part the programme, a mobile application named Sanjog was also launched by CM Sonowal. “Lack of electricity supply means lack of development. I urge all stakeholders of the state’s power supply department to work in a united manner to fulfil the aim.”
The programme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year to provide electricity to all houses – even in remote villages – by December 31 this year and cover 20.4 lakh villages.
Households in inaccessible and remote areas will be provided solar power packs (with battery bank) along with LED lights, fans, power plugs among others with a five-year free maintenance support under the scheme.
Under the programme, “Sanjog” mobile app will be used to apply for new power connections. After registration in the app, the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) will conduct camps in villages and approach the households for providing power connection.
To implement the programme, the government will start a statewide registration drive from February 8 where people below poverty line will get power connection free of cost while others have to pay Rs 500.
